About
History
St. Peter School was opened on September 7, 1976 as a small school offering only Kindergarten through grade 4 under the guidance of Mr. Abbey Densmore. Though St. Peter only had 43 students enrolled that first year, it rapidly grew, and the next year accepted children up to grade 6. By 1982, the school had almost 200 students.
1987 was a year of change for St. Peter as it welcomed a new Principal, Ms. Sylvia Basso. The school began accepting students up to grade 8 and enrollment jumped to 308.
In 1991, Jim Furfaro was appointed the first Vice Principal to help Ms. Basso when the enrollment increased again to 377 students. In 1993, Mrs. Norina Morris took over from Ms. Basso as principal while enrollment continued to grow to close to 500 students.
Mission Statement
We at St. Peter School are a Catholic Christian community of students, parents, teachers, parish, support and board personnel.
We are committed to the teaching of our children within an accepting, secure environment where we can foster positive growth and where we can guide and support our children in their spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and personal development.
We provide a caring, Christ centered environment, working at developing a positive self-image while respecting the dignity and equality for all others as God’s children.
We encourage a love of learning where each community member develops his/her God-given gifts to their fullest.
We share our faith experiences through the celebration of song, prayer, Eucharist, and in our service to others.
The students are important members of our community, taking responsibility for their learning by being creative and inquisitive about the world in which they live.
The ideal learning program flourishes in a community where parents, trustees, teachers, administrators and clergy are mutually supportive in the education of Catholic children. This is the conviction upon which is based the uniqueness of St. Peter School and the Wellington Catholic District School Board.
